Real-World IoT Applications

The rise of IoT has been phenomenal. IoT devices and embedded systems have become more prevalent and efficient in our daily lives. The first application of IoT was in 1982. A Coke machine at Carnegie Mellon University was able to report its inventory and coldness of the drinks.

IoT applications

IoT in Healthcare

IoT revolutionized medical care by a network of connected medical devices to the world. It elevates the efficiency and quality of medical facilities for patients and healthcare provision with IoT development services for healthcare. The major advantages of IoT in healthcare include Cost Reduction, Improved Treatment, Faster Disease Diagnosis, Proactive Treatment, Error Reduction, Reducing wait time, Tracking employees and patients, Identification of chronic diseases, Drug management, and keeping track of hardware maintenance.

Remote health monitoring

It uses the latest advances in information technology to gather patient data outside of traditional healthcare settings which enables the doctors to get the patient’s details every second. Patients wear a Holter monitor device to monitor the abnormalities in their heartbeat.

Smart Hospitals

IoT and AI are enabling healthcare organizations to implement intelligent recognition, positioning, tracking, monitoring and management, by utilizing RFID, infrared sensors, GPS, laser scanners, and other information sensing equipment for better diagnosis, treatment, management, and decision.

Wearables

Wearable technology in healthcare includes electronic devices that are wearables, the purpose is designed to collect the data of user-health fitness. Popular IoT devices include Fitbit, wearable blood pressure monitors, smart health watches, wearable ECG monitors, and biosensors. Fitness trackers and smartwatches that report on parameters like temperature, blood pressure, pulse, etc. Smartphones, Smartwatches, Health trackers, and Digital assistants all these things are in our lives and are making our lives better and easier well.

IoT in Smart Cities

Making use of IoT devices such as sensors, lights, and cameras to gather and analyze data helps in improving infrastructure, public utilities, and services. Cities are using this technology for parking lots, parking decks, street lights smart parks, Flood and water notification. There are some areas that not only does that city benefit but the city downstream could benefit if they are seeing a flash flood scenario that may impact downstream cities or communities and giving them a heads up. An alert is very beneficial for people counting on this day of cover.

IoT in Manufacturing

The Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) is leading to digital transformation in manufacturing. With the help of IoT-enabled sensors, manufacturing industries can gather feedback regarding the end product and use that to gain a better understanding of manufacturing methods, in a cost-effective, time-bound method.

·       Automated self-fixing systems

·       Product failure management

·       Predictive repairs and maintenance

·       Monitoring equipment utilization

·       Product quality control monitoring

IoT in Industrial Sector

Inventory Control

Inventory control is a component of warehouse and supply chain management. By using advanced IoT sensors we can easily keep track and analyze inventory precise location and stock levels.

Fleet Management

IoT fleet management solutions servers to follow assets as they travel, monitor their health remotely. And reroute the team to put them on the safest, and most efficient path available. Fleet managers can accurately track driving sequences to provide best and worst practices to enable the safest and cognizant drivers.

Predictive Management

Real-time, low-cost monitoring devices that send data to an algorithm continuously. It can detect if something goes wrong with a machine or use machine learning to make a prediction.

Connected Cars

Vehicle-to-vehicle communication technologies are high-speed, high-bandwidth networks, cameras, and radar. That allows cars to locate each other avoid collisions streamline traffic, and become autonomous in the future.

IoT in Retail

Making use of IoT-based technology in retail, business owners are gaining supply chain insights, monitoring customer satisfaction, and cost-saving to improve the overall performance. It enhances the efficiency and productivity of a business by providing the ultimate user experience.

Smart Shelves

With smart shelf technology, retail owners can keep track of products and showcase the necessary details to the customers.

Robot Employees

This will draw the attention of the customers as robot employees will assist them and enhance their shopping experience.

Digital signage

IoT-based digital signage will showcase personalized data to the customers based on shopping and choices.

Automated Checkout

Take the item you want and walk out of the store, the bill amount gets deducted from your bank account.

Personalized alerts

Give special offers and discounts to regular customers when they pass near your store or products through IoT sensors.

IoT in Environmental Monitoring

Controlling air and water pollution

IoT provides effective monitoring of pollution levels in different parts of cities and real-time monitoring of air and water quality.

Waste Management

Vehicle Tracking

Extreme Weather

Some real-time scenarios:

Refrigeration monitoring apps and sensors enhance efficiency and effectiveness. In restaurants and hospitals are required and regulated to maintain certain temperatures in their walk-in coolers and walk-in freezers. For decades, it was a thermometer inside of the walk-in fridge refrigerator and the employee would go in, read the thermometer, take the clipboard off the wall, and write down the temperature. Assuming the employee does it on time and fills up the whole shift and puts a decimal in the wrong spot or reads the thermometer wrong. There are issues with human error. But more importantly, paying someone to do a task that can be automated. So by putting an IoT sensor that measures the temperature by the second is invaluable. Because it cost dollars a month versus hundreds of dollars a month. Often the person has to go there and check that if it's not done correctly the fines that come along with it. But automated sensors do that kind of task.

People counting in Retail stores or school systems a lot of use cases there from RFID tagging on students ID cards thinking about elementary school and a kindergartner’s backpack tag.

In school bus riders when the kid got left on the school bus and the bus got locked up in the depot yard and the kid never came home. This is the real tragic scenario of school safety of shooters areas but real problems and technology can help with the smart cameras and video systems that can detect if someone is in the parking lot and automatically locks the front doors.
